David completed a B Juris and LLB at the University of Western Australia in 1979. David was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1980, and admitted to the High Court of Australia in 1983. He commenced practice at the Legal Aid Commission and then joined Jackson McDonald where he was made a partner in July 1989.
David is a founding partner of Jarman McKenna.
David has been in practice for 30 years and for 23 years has practiced solely in insurance litigation. He has appeared regularly in the District, Supreme, Federal and High Court and has been involved in a number of significant landmark cases involving local council liability and public liability, including a major asbestos liability practice, being the sole solicitor for Amaca Pty Limited in Western Australia. He also has a significant practice in construction liability. He is regarded as a leader in insurance litigation in the State.
David also has a significant practice in the area of professional indemnity insurance acting for financial advisors, real estate agents, nursing homes, architects and engineers, and dealing with a wide range of issues from unfair dismissal to major construction liability claims.
David also practices in the area of property, transport and general liability.
He has been an advisor to the Insurance Council of Australia and been called upon by government to provide advice and input in relation to changes in legislation.
David is the current President of the board of the Australian Insurance Law Association having been a member of the Association for 23 years and a member of the executive for 13 years
